Nature Photography from Connecticut’s Quiet Corner
Based in Pomfret, Connecticut, my Northeast Connecticut nature photography focuses on the forests, lakes, rivers, wildlife, preserves, and changing seasons of Northeast Connecticut and The Last Green Valley.
This region is filled with quiet places to explore and photograph — from peaceful lakes and woodland trails to wetlands, fields, rivers, and protected conservation lands. My photography focuses on the natural beauty and character of these places throughout the year. From the vibrant wildflowers of early spring and the lush green canopies of summer to the fiery brilliance of autumn foliage and the quiet solitude of winter snowscapes, this protected corridor offers endless shifting moods to capture through the lens
Northeast Connecticut Nature Photography in The Last Green Valley
The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor is a remarkable rural landscape of forests, farmland, waterways, wildlife habitat, and protected open space stretching across Northeast Connecticut and south-central Massachusetts.
Living in Pomfret gives me the opportunity to explore many of these places regularly, searching for changing light, wildlife encounters, seasonal color, reflections, and the small details that make each location unique. Being immersed right here in the heart of the region allows me to return to familiar trails and waterways across changing weather conditions, uncovering the quiet, fleeting details that define our local wilderness.
Pomfret & Woodstock Nature Photography
Some of my photography takes place close to home, including Bafflin Sanctuary and the Center at Pomfret, along with conservation lands protected by the Wyndham Land Trust.
My local photography also includes Duck Marsh Preserve, Aicher Preserve, Lyon Preserve, Tucker Preserve, Gellert/Valentine Preserve, The Three B’s Preserve, Wright Preserve, and Potrzeba Preserve.
Throughout the surrounding area, I photograph places including Roseland Lake, Yale-Myers Forest, Natchaug State Forest, West Thompson Lake, Mashamoquet Brook State Park, the Little River, the Quinebaug River, and the Air Line Trail.
Roseland Lake and the Little River are part of the interconnected waterways that run through this landscape, with water flowing from the lake into the Little River and ultimately toward the Quinebaug River. These connections are an important part of the region’s natural character and provide habitat for birds, wildlife, and other species.
Further into the Quiet Corner, locations such as James L. Goodwin State Forest, Bigelow Hollow State Park, and Nipmuck State Forest provide additional opportunities for landscape and wildlife photography.
Photography, Conservation & The Future of Our Natural Lands
The forests, farmlands, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and open spaces of Northeast Connecticut are more than beautiful places to photograph. They provide essential habitat for birds, wildlife, plants, and many other species, while giving people places to explore, reflect, and connect with nature.
I believe strongly in protecting these natural lands and supporting the organizations that work to preserve them. Local land trusts, conservation organizations, Audubon Sanctuaries, Connecticut state parks, and other groups play an important role in protecting the forests, farmland, waterways, and wildlife habitat that make The Last Green Valley such a special place.
I am proud to support these conservation efforts and believe preserving these lands for future generations is something we all have a responsibility to protect.
Through my photography, I hope to contribute in my own small way. By sharing the beauty of these places and the species that inhabit them, I hope my images inspire people to appreciate what we have here, understand why it is worth protecting, and support the continued preservation of our natural world.
Nature That Heals — and nature worth protecting.
